We are Excellent!

We are delighted to share with everyone that we had a SIAMs visit on Wednesday 4th of May and they assessed us to be a school that said the impact of Collective Worship is Excellent and that overall, our school is Excellent.

We would highly recommend you read the entire report but here are the key findings they had:

  • The deeply motivating Christian distinctiveness of this school drives every aspect of academy life. Its impact is to transform the lives of staff and pupils.
  • The inspirational leadership of the headteacher and her team ensures pupils acquire exceptional attitudes and values. These are life-lasting and life-enhancing.
  • Innovative and challenging religious education (RE) and collective worship provide a powerful expression of ‘love in action’. All pupils acquire a rich understanding of life’s mysteries.
  • Staff are empowered and affirmed in their delivery of the vision through the exceptional strategic leadership of the governors.
  • The impact of class representatives, known as visionaries, in driving the vision is exceptional. Their powerfully authentic modelling of the vision inspires and engages others and ensures it is embodied in learning, play and worship.

We are so proud of the work that everyone in our school does to ensure that we can live out our Christian Vision of Love in Action in such a way that has such great impact on the school and wider community.

OFSTED News

On the 9th and 10th of November we received a visit from Ofsted.

As a school, we are pleased to announce that we have remained a 'Good' school and this is down to the hard work and effort of all the staff and the fantastic effort that our school community (including parents, carers as well as the children) put in every single day so thank you! This is reflected in the way the report positively praises our schools Christian Ethos and Vision; our inspector was clearly very impressed by our community.

We would invite you to have a look at the full report and please do ask us any questions you have. In the meantime, we've received so many lovely responses from various figures around the local Education community including the following from April Gold, the Director of Education in the local Coventry Diocese, who picked up on how the Ofsted inspector was clearly very impressed with our schools' Christian Ethos and Vision:

"I am so pleased they [Ofsted] kept the reference to the strong Christian ethos at the beginning but also it is woven through the report. I'm not sure I have ever seen Ofsted do this before, particularly not in the relatively few words they have in a Section 8 report! ... I think we should be confident in presenting the Christian Vision... as the driving force of the school as evidence of strong leadership and community building."

We're absolutely thrilled and delighted with these comments which is why we wanted to share them with everyone.

Rest assured, we are constantly looking for ways to take our school from strength to strength and, while our hard working staff absolutely deserve a chance to 'Cocoon' (take time to relax and reflect - one of our much praised Christian Cultures) we will definitely be looking to work on the suggested comments further embedding Queens as a place where our community can feel ‘Love In Action’ even further.

Advent Reflections

For Christians, the period that is marked by the 4 Sundays running up to Christmas is known as advent. Advent is a time for Christians to reflect and think about the coming of Jesus to the earth as a baby.

There are two periods of preparation in the Christian calendar: Advent and Lent. For each period, usually associated with the colour purple, Christians are encouraged to take extra time to be quiet - what we call in school Cocoon Time! Every day in school, children are completing advent reflections where we are looking to see what we, as both Christians and Non-Christians, can do to further develop as people using our Christian Cultures and the Nativity Story as our guide.

If you would like to join in with the reflections at home, please head to this YouTube link where you can find all our videos which will be uploaded on a daily basis.

Christmas Charity Appeal

Still image for this video
The school Visionaries have decided that they would like to gather new toys or books to donate to the Salvation Army Christmas Toy appeal. They explain a little bit more about this in the video below. Please feel free to support us by bringing an unwrapped new toy or book into school to donate by Friday 10th December.

Primary Latin Project

At Queens, from September 2021, we have chosen to study Latin as our foreign language. We believe it will unlock a world of vocabulary for our children – around 60% of our words in English are rooted in Latin (90% in science and technology). So it will anchor the children's knowledge of spelling and meaning in a wider linguistic context. It is not a spoken language, but the children will learn to read and write simple words and phrases across their 4 years at Queens, and we believe this will help them to unlock unfamiliar English words which they come across in comprehension situations.

We are extremely grateful to the Primary Latin Project for their financial support in the purchase of new textbooks and workbooks for the children and are very excited to start this new project!

Teacher Meetings

Dear all Queens Pupils

We’ve missed you! It’s been so wonderful being in contact with many of you via email and seeing the hard work you’re putting in on Read Theory or Reading Wise. However, through the wonders of modern technology, next week we are able to have a face to face meeting to catch up with you and your parents. We can chat about how you are getting on generally. Unfortunately, these appointments are only 10 minutes but it will be great to catch up anyway.

To sign up for an appointment, your parents will need to read the Document below and then follow this link:

https://queenscofe.schoolcloud.co.uk/

Your parents will then be able to sign in to book an appointment with your class teacher. If, parents, you are having any problems, then please email your child's class teacher to let them know.

Appointment times have been set based on teacher availability so they do vary across the different classes.

It would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible but please be aware appointments will go quick so you better book soon!

Best wishes

All the teachers.

Messages From Us To You!

Still image for this video
A message from each of the teachers to you, the children and parents, at home. Kindly put together by Mrs Makryliotaki.

In the Christian Calendar we're heading into a period preparation for Easter known as Lent. Historically, lent is a time when Christians spend more time praying and can also be involved in raising money for charity. The act of raising money for charity over lent is known as 'Alms'. As a school learning to show Love in Action and honouring others above ourselves, we've decided to raise money to twin our school toilets with other toilets across the world. Year groups and classes will be running their own fundraising projects so keep your eyes open for the fundraising ideas they come up with.

Safer Internet Day 2019

Today at Queens we completed our Safer Internet Day, it was all about consent and permission. The children learnt about what permission is and who can give it. Why organisations and friends should ask for permission. Along with how to say no if you feel uncomfortable about giving your permission.

Each year group looked at a different aspect of consent. Year 3 looked at different scenarios and what they should do in those scenarios. Year 4 looked at game PEGI ratings to understand where they should gain consent when buying new games. Year 5 designed their own social media app and what consent they needed to run their social media app. Year 6 took part in some drama and acted out different scenes and then re-acted it out with what they should have done.

Oh no it isn't!

Oh yes it is!

Yes you guessed it, it's Pantomime Day at Queens CofE Academy. Today all the children were treated to a performance from Chaplins Theatre Productions. The children throughly enjoyed Cinderella and loved getting involved in the show.

We we would like to thank everyone at Chaplins for providing such an amazing performance. All of the children had the most amazing time and it provided them with the perfect end to the Autumn term.

From here at Queens we wish you a Merry Chritmas and a Happy New Year!

Remembrance Day Service

On Friday 9th November, we held our school Remembrance Day service. Father Tom led our service and we invited the relatives of ex-pupils who appear on our school memorial board to honour them. Each year group created their own Remembrance Day art including poppies, war scene silhouettes and skylines. Our Collective Worship team showcased these pieces of art during the event to the rest of the school. This was a special time to remember the soldiers who fought and all those involved. Thank you to all those attended.

Thank-you!

Queens would like to say a massive thank you to Balfour Beatty who have volunteered their time to clear our school field and cut down overgrown trees and shrubs.

Thank-you!
