Welcome to Year 6!
Meet the teachers:
Hi, I'm Mr Lavender and I teach Shakespeare class. I am responsible for Writing and Oracy and I am also a Designated Safeguarding Lead. In my spare time, I like to go to the gym and I am also a video game geek. My favourite game to play is the Legend of Zelda. Lastly, my favourite animals are dogs and I have a miniature Schnauzer called Sock.
Hello, I am Mr Hartopp! I joined Queen's in April 2025 and have loved every minute! Growing up, I have always had a passion and love for sports and have tried my hand in many of them! However, my favourite has to be football following the ups and downs of Everton! Within my teaching, I like learning to be fun and interactive and explore the outdoors wherever possible.

Year 6 – Our Learning Journey So Far
Year 6 have had an exciting and productive year under the guidance of our three class teachers: Mr Lavender (Shakespeare), Mr Hartopp (Newton) and Miss Goode (Rowling). Across the Autumn and Spring Terms, the children have thrown themselves into new learning, memorable experiences and focused preparation for their upcoming SATs.
Autumn Term
The year began with great enthusiasm as we explored a wide range of topics and experiences. Our visit to Dudley Zoo was a fantastic highlight, giving the children the chance to see a variety of animals up close and learn more about habitats, conservation and animal behaviour.
In the classroom, Year 6 worked hard on SATs preparation, developing skills in maths, reading and writing to build confidence and accuracy. Our history unit on Ancient Greece sparked lively discussion and curiosity as pupils explored democracy, mythology, daily life and the lasting influence of Greek civilisation on the modern world.
Spring Term
The momentum continued into the Spring Term with even more hands-on learning opportunities. Our visit to Coventry Cathedral provided a powerful insight into themes of remembrance, resilience and peace, which the children reflected on thoughtfully.
In geography, the children deepened their understanding of the world by exploring biomes, climate zones and natural resources. They investigated how different environments support life, how climate shapes human activity and how resources are used around the globe, developing a strong sense of global awareness and responsibility.
Alongside all this exciting learning, we continued our focused SATs revision, revisiting key skills and practising strategies to help everyone feel ready and prepared for the tests ahead.
